According to an article published today by Fortune magazine, Justice Thomas hinted at a reversal of other much cherished human rights issues in the United States: Gay rights and access to contraceptives.

Since the argument for abortion usually is built on the logic of bodily autonomy, and that didn’t convince the Supreme Court to uphold Roe v Wade, other human rights built on the same logic could also be threatened.

There appears to be a sharp increase in Christian fundamentalist politics creeping into everyday life. America is a country of many religions, lifestyles, and people who hold dual nationalities.

LGBT rights enjoyed enormous breakthrough success these last fifteen years. Birth control has never been as threatened as it is now since it became available to the public during the 1960s.

These sharply conservative no frills developments are likely to cause fractures in American society. How this may influence state rights is still unclear…
