No, “The Northman” isn’t Some Awful No Good Terrible White Supremacist Propaganda

It’s just that people can’t handle simple facts that Vikings were white and toxic masculinity was all the rage back then

So, last weekend, I got to see “The Northman” in theaters here in Amman with my husband. I first saw that it was available on our very legal device that has the app Popcorn Time on it (oooooh wouldn’t it suck if I told you how to stream films for free? Don’t worry I won’t tell you how to do that). After watching about forty minutes, I turned it off, and begged him to go see it the following day on a big screen.

I have a passing interest in Norse mythology, and went through a kind of cringy kvlt phase during my teenage years. I would wear black metal shirts and even had a mjolnir pendant, which sadly has been appropriated by the far right for whatever LARPy bullshit they’re into.

I was pleasantly surprised to see three familiar faces: Alexander Skarsgard, Nicole Kidman..and..Bjork? Alright, then.
