People grossly underestimate how badly they need to feel purpose to be happy. Believe it or not, someone working as a bus driver who knows their job is necessary for hundreds of people to get to work everyday I'd imagine would be a LOT happier and more purpose driven than someone who is rich and lazing around all day playing video games. People with a strictly "materialist" worldview (I mean this in the philosophical sense) neglect the importance of the spiritual side of living (happiness, purpose, wellbeing, etc).
