Yes, Weed Can be FCKING Dangerous
Just because Marijuana isn’t the direct cause of death doesn’t make it not dangerous
I started smoking when I was 21. Naturally, this was when I was at university. Like many students, I acquired my weed from shady sources at parties and other students who were lucky enough to have their medical cards.
Then in 2015, Oregon legalized recreational marijuana. I still remember the first day when shops opened. I went to one store called Flowr of Lyfe and got a whole ounce for sixty bucks on their opening day special. I spent the whole afternoon smoking pretty much nonstop.
Somehow, I still managed to function alright at my classes. I did well, and thought I was responsible enough to quit once weed became a priority, which fortunately, it never did.
Really, the weed only became an issue during the pandemic. I didn’t smoke nearly as much before that. I was living in Arizona, and during a brief period of about 4 months of unemployment, I’d go to and from California and smuggle hundreds and hundreds of dollars worth of weed (largely from my savings and the stimulus checks) from unlicensed stores, in which you could easily nab a whole top shelf ounce for 70 bucks. Thanks Greyhound buses for never giving enough of a shit about drugs. You’d probably lose half your passengers if you did.
In Arizona, I used to live in a small crappy town called Sierra Vista. It’s a shithole for anti immigration extremists who park outside the border with sniper rifles. How I got there is a really dumb story, one that I’ll spare you of for now. Anyway, I was living in a small community catering mostly to seniors. It also had an RV park attached to it, so all sorts of folks would come by and live for a few weeks at a time. It was safe, other than the javelinas that would walk the streets in packs of three to four. Seeing one of those fucking boar looking creatures while high is pretty psychedelic.
I’d pass my unemployed days smoking like crazy. Fortunately, I got back to work in late March of 2021. I earned as much online as I was earning at my GIS Analyst office job. I convinced myself I was a functioning stoner, so I basically continued getting high as a kite, sometimes during my work hours.
